I'm an old petrolhead and I'm definitely looking at an electric when it comes time to replace my BMW 328xi.

That being said... the best solution is no car. I walk, ride my my bike or public transportation 90% of the time now. We sold our 2nd car years ago.

"Skip" brought up the main problem right now that you didn't list. Emissions from mining make an EVs currently no cleaner than an ICE car, regardless of the grid source.

An old engineer friend and I were discussing electrification and he said the issue will be that that there is not enough copper in the world to replace ICE and FF plants. And if we use less efficient conductors (e.g. aluminum) that will change the math again.

I'm an EE watching this develop for decades. I'm still hopeful, as that EV acceleration is fucking awesome! But I'm not as EV positive as I was a year ago and really started researching.
