I'm an American living abroad. I had the same issue when my son was young. How to talk about all the wonderful people in the US while talking about all the terrible things we as a nation have done (and are doing) both in the US and around the world.

It is not an easy needle to thread, and I don't think there is one right answer, or even 100. I hope you're happy with your decision.
