I'm all for renewables, but some realities are catching up.
Windfarm maintenance, particularly for "older" (relative) farms is higher than expected. This has made windfarm projects less attractive (I work with energy firms across the EU daily).
Solar is better, but the demand is so high that projects are delayed massively.
Overbuilding with those two forms is thus difficult.
On the private side, everyone and their brother wants both solar and a heat pump. Delivery delays are incredibly long.
If the US hadn't blown up the Nordstream pipeline, Russian gas would still be flowing to the EU, mostly to Germany.
IMO the biggest problem for gas in the EU is that the US can't deliver gas cheaper than Russia, so a war with Russia was needed. Now that we have it, the future is rather more murky.
