I'm a colonialist via my ancestry as well, even though I moved back to the "old country" decades ago.
If you - or anyone else - feels under attack by my using the correct terms regarding Israeli actions - and you are not Israeli, then that says more about you than about me.
Assuming you're not Israeli, that is the reaction/behavior of children of trauma, e.g. grown kids who were abused or the adult children of alcoholics. We (I am in that demographic as well) attack the messenger because we don't want to address the underlying abuse or problem (e.g. alcoholism).
What the US did to indigenous Americans was ethnic cleansing and genocide. This is not deniable. We can't change that past.** We can change how we deal with Israel doing the same with our tax money and our weapons RIGHT NOW.
How is ignoring the problem in Israel going to play out, David? It will play out with a million+ dead Palestinians. I think those lives are more important than our feelings about the words used to describe what is happening.
** I'm not ignoring that the US should redress those past crimes, but that is not the subject here.
