I'll give you a classic Austrian response to your question, "What do I think?" My answer is, "It depends."

Did she get to decide on every expense that was split? Maybe she prefers € 5 noodles with sparkling water and he prefers € 30 steaks with € 200/ bottle wine. Did she have to split that? Did they split tasks equally?

My wife and I split money and tasks unequally because we have unequal incomes from before we met and unequal talents. In some areas I'm the boss. In some areas she is the boss. In some areas we split 50/50. In all others the split is based on a numerous factors as noted above.

We're very happy together, even working together for many years. In 4 months we'll celebrate 20 years together. So our split works for us, but it took time and a lot of open and honest talk and trust to get there, and it is of course a constant work in progress because the only constant in life is change.

In previous relationships, either I found the split inequitable, so I split, or she split (obviously because she was a completely unreasonable cheap trollop - SARCASM!).

Joking aside, just be honest about what you want and expect and see if it matches.
