I'd say you're hafl right. As "former" Yugoslavia and Libya (to name two nations) can attest, NATO is definitely NOT a defensive alliance.

NATO attacking Belarus would most definitely make Russia's justification for the invasion look 10x more legitimate, a getting /holding support for sanctions against Russia then 50x more difficult.
