I went to drive-ins in the early-mid 70s in the mid-west. Lots of fun, particularly for a family with 4 kids and not much money.

When we got to Houston in 79 I don't think there were any in business. It is so friggin' hot and humid in Houston that 3/4s of the year the windows would be steamed from the people cooking inside.

There was one closed down drive-in that I used to drive by between Houston and Austin on Hwy 290. I just found in on the interwebs and it closed down in the 80s. So I didn't imagine that I saw it in business IIRC last time I drove by (must be 2019 pre-covid on my last visit) it is completely gone now.
