I very much feel for the Ukrainian civilians. They are well and truly fucked. For the corrupt Ukrainian leaders I have little (OK some) sympathy. Like other corrupt leaders from the Shah of Iran to Manuel Noriega to Saddam Hussein, they all believed the US really valued them, and would honor their agreements for support.

It is more than a guess that Zelenskyy "demands" so much from the US because he was made explicit promises for so much BY the US. He is learning like so many others before him what the promises of the US are worth.

It is not only "bad guys" though. Olaf Scholz is learning, like Boris Johnson and Liz "Shortest UK PM in history" Truss, that being an "ally" of the US means vassal. You will sacrifice your country for the goals of the US.
