I think the Netherlands is more like the US than Austria, that is all. I’ve spent very little time in Scandinavia (only Denmark and Sweden), but a good friend is Danish and I’ve heard a lot over the years from him.
On a spectrum from socialism (left) to unfettered capitalism (right), all of the EU is closer to the left than the US. I just think NL is farther right than Austria. Private healthcare is a good example of why. England, although it has public healthcare, is IMO even farther right than NL.
I’ve read a lot about this because it interests me, but I don’t remember ever reading study results that refute or support my theory.
