I think it is no coincidence that as the western world (including US vassal states like Japan, Australia, and South Korea) has grown more crowded and unequal, Zombie films have grown more popular.

Individual undead monsters like Dracula and Frankenstein have been replaced by mobs.

Average people are feeling overwhelmed by forces beyond their control. Things we kind of understand but don't.

We learned with the Pentagon Papers 50 years ago in the US, that there ARE huge conspiracies of very powerful people. Really bad things happen like 50,000 Americans and millions of Vietnamese, Cambodians and Laos dying for a war started on and perpetuaed with lies.

Seeing these elements come together in art (film) is for me no surprise. It is not necessary to look to the inexplicity of the big bang (particularly as there are now credible theories that there was no big bang).
