I see it the same way. I have been mostly car free for the last 16 years. For the last 13 almost completely car free. To the point of selling our second car about 5 years ago. Our current car is 11 years old and has 70k km (= 4k miles/yr or 330 miles/mn).

We have a car at all for day trips and visting family in neighboring CZ. Plus it is a luxury we can afford for some shopping and days when it is too cold to ride my bike to the gym and I don't feel like taking the underground.

I post really because walking a bunch every day (that 10k steps thing is not set in stone) is one of the best things you can do for your body both short and long term. There is zero down side.
