I left the US for Austria long before Trump. Trump is a symptom of the problems in the US, not the cause.

That being said, Trump definitely emboldened the authoritarian, racist, sexist, homophobic, and/or xenophobic minorities in US to more openly show their colors.

No doubt moving abroad is (in general) a luxury. Particularly in countries like Austria with a great social system, you've got to prove you can add to society before you'll be allowed to stay - unless you're a refugee of course.

I've no plans to go back to the US at this time. A reminder of why occurred just a couple months ago when my socialist medical care (free at the point of service) told me I needed minor surgery. My out of pocket expenses for the surgery were €12.49. It would have been over $10k in the US.

Apropos socialized medicine: Covid lockdowns suck here, but compared to the US response to Covid are a walk in the park.
