I know that. But it is based on the assumption that one has a house or at least a dedicated parking place. Less than half of Americans have their own garage or carport. I couldn’t quickly find a comparable number for the EU, but I’d bet a lot it is at least 10% lower.

It is not cost effective to own an EV and not be able to charge at home. So for more than half of all Americans and even more in the EU, it is not cost effective to buy an EV.
