I have my share of guilt for what my forefathers did to both the indigenous Americans and the slaves. I can't change the past. Looking to the future I think we need a better term than "White Privilege."
"White privilege" gets white people who don't have much riled up. It gets white people who feel threatened economically riled up. A better term would be something like "Non-White Disadvantage" but that doesn't exacttly roll off the tongue (I mostly suck at thinking up catchy terms).
The reason for the distinction is important. I don't think anyone is saying we should take something away from white people (our "privilege"), we should just treat everyone like we treat white people. e.g. Minneapolis police officers shouldn't start killing white citizens, they should just stop killing the black ones.
This same dynamic plays out regarding male "privilege" too. I don't think people are proposing that men should lose rights, they (we) just want women to have the same rights. Like, I don't know, the right to decide what to do with their own bodies? Maybe?
Someone with a talent for catchy terms should step up here.
