I don't know enough about ships and winds to know if this is feasible, but technical feasibility is a secondary issue. Until we start including the total cost, incuding social costs through pollution and exploitation, of production, then nothing is going to significantly change.

Why is it cheaper to produce a clock in China than in Zurich? Because the socialized costs of worker exploitation and pollution are not included. The same with beef from South America compared to Europe and textiles from Bangladesh instead of South Carolina.
