I do the same. I would argue that it is more effficient to outsource those things only when you have many to do at once.
I recently fixed a broken switch on our washing machine. I took the machine apart and made a provisional switch until the €3 part arrived a week later. I did not spend several hundred Euros outsourcing to a workman. I did not have to organize being here (or my wife) for several hours 1-3 times for a workman. I did not have to even find a workman for my washing machine. We didn't have to find a laundromat and take our wash there for the week it took for the part to arrive.
Every time we run the machine now, I get to think..."I fixed that."
Not only that, I bought two extra switches so the next time that little plastic piece of shit switch (that should be metal and last 40 years) breaks I'll have it fixed in 30 minutes.
