I did some research on this subject some months ago, but I'm not a lawyer or legal expert. With that caveat aside, I believe the type of censorship we're suffering under is actually illegal.

The US government applies pressure to media companies by threatening regulation, taxes, breaking them up, etc. This is sometimes explicit (e.g. AOC's tweets about censorship).

Government agents (e.g. Members of the House) are legally allowed to apply such pressure. Ergo, the US government IS censoring, just using a middle man to do it.
