I agree with everything until the last clause. The base problem is a 17-year-old civilian walking around with a gun. But that is not the issue on trial. I wish it was, but it wasn't. It is, unfortunately, legal in many places in the US to walk around with a gun. So unless I'm a police officer, it is not perfectly understandable for someone to try to take his gun.
