I agree that most don't know that. I think even fewer people can realize what such a life would do to a person.

The atrocities and war crimes commited by the Hamas fighters are horrific. Without justifying those atrocities one can imagine how desparate those young men are/were. I see parallels to the Warsaw Ghetto uprising. Like those Polish Jews, I expect there is/was a feeling of, "Die slow or individually, or at least take some of them with us before I get killed." Horrific all around.
