I agree completely regarding Monty Python, both good and bad. I haven't seen a couple of the other films in so long (Grease, Blazing Saddles) that I can't remember, or only once (Titanic).
Apropos, our son the memelord made a good one using a picture of our dog, who my wife adores like a second (third) child.
Regarding Pretty in Pink, Duckie got what he deserved, as did I. Life isn't fair. You don't pick who you're attacted to.
Two of the lessons I'm most proud of teaching my son as a young man is, "You have to tell her how you feel" and "if she's not into you like you are into her then cut your losses quickly and move on."
I think those words of wisdom, along with making it clear that sex is great fun but a huge responsibility every fucking time (LOL!), that our boy is doing so well relationship-wise decades earlier than my wife and I met and got our shit together. Ironically, if I had followed my own advice, my son wouldn't be here. In that sense I'm really glad my dad didn't pass on that wisdom to me.
