Growing up with a family all over the US and not enough money to do anything on vacation except to drive to visit relatives, I learned much of this at a very early age.

Emigrating (OK, "moving") from Minneapolis to Houston as a young teen really showed me the cultural differences. I found that the cultural differences between Houston and Vienna, Austria (where I live now) and no larger than the differences between Minneapolis and Houston.
