Growing up in the midwest half my family were (and still are) farmers with (sometimes) little houses on the praire.

I was a boy in the 70s. I found LHOTP boring and could not understand its popularity. My younger sister loved it. She's straight AFAIK, but definitely has a "I'm gonna do it my way" attitude that I share. Maybe my sister identified with the characters in that way and me not being a girl and free from the stultifying gender mores of the 70s it just didn't resonate with me.

I only clicked on this article for the title, not expecting to finish. I found the whole article fascinating, and I now have an interesting topic to discuss with my sister to boot! Thanks!
