Great points. My parents were far from perfect, but my mom, especially, always told me that I could do anything I put my mind to. That mindest has helped me massively in my life.

My wife had parents who were the opposite. I helped her to to see her own potential. She's the first in her family to graduate college. That she did it in a foreign country in a foreign language (her third or fourth depending how you count) was just icing on a very big cake.
