GoT was the most popular show ever because the books are fantastic, and Georg Martin was helping write the show....for the first seasons.

Everyone agrees that the shows took a nose dive in quality when Dan and Dave ran out of source material, ignored Martin's help and decided they could write the rest on their own.

I waited a few years until after the show had ended, bought a discount set of GoT DVDs (in a cool collector's box!) and watched. I enjoyed the stories even to the end, but the criticism's are well founded.

I have not watched Ring of Power. I have been a fan of Tolkein for about 45 years. My one tattoo is a combination of Elvish and Dwarvish script. I own multiple copies of the LOTR books and DVDs as well as all of Tolkien's other works including the Hobbit.

The LOTR and the Hobbit movies got worse as Jackson got more money, and concentrated on CGI and cheap gags rather than the stories and the actor's character development. How much better could the Hobbit have been if we had been spared Tauriel's love triangle and fucking Alfred?

So when all I heard about was "big budget" for Amazon's Rings of Power and nothing about writers and story development I thought, "some things that should not have been forgotten were lost."
