Good luck with this. In 2016 I was a huge Bernie supporter. 24/7 I was hearing about how I'm "stealing a vote from Hillary," "wasting my vote," "making a protest vote," "supporting a spoiler," etc., etc.

I went to great lengths on Reddit inclduing math proofs showing that the entire vote-shaming agenda by both parties (but mostly the Dems) was a crock of shit.

You CANNOT "take" a vote from someone else. You can only take something that belongs to someone else. Since every election every candidate starts from zero votes, it is mathematically impossible to "take" a vote. You can only "give" a vote.

I give my vote to the candidate I think best represents my interests. If no candidate rises above my subjective "net positive" threshold, then no candidate gets my vote. Pretty simple. If everyone voted like this, minor parties and coalitions would form in the US similar to those in the parlimentary democracies in Europe.

Most importantly, US politicians would re-learn that they have to do something for actual voters to get and stay in power, not just be against someone.
