Gender is biological. That's the damn definition. Sexual identification is different than biological gender. You can identify as whatever you want. That is definitely your right. You should have the same legal rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness as anyone else regardless of your sexual identity - provided your rights don't infringe on the rights of others.
It is those areas where rights of different groups collide that are the issues. There are no absolute right answers on what is fair and right, it is a matter of perspective and discussion in any society.
[edit] I have to correct myself. “Gender” ist not biological, I confused it with “sex” and I’m clearly not up on the terminology. Too busy at work. Should have left this touchy subject for a less stressful month. I should have read up on the terms before assuming I was using them correctly. My bad.
That being said, my secondary points remain the same, just with the terms corrected: Sex is biological, sexual identification = gender is different than biological gender = sex. The terms of course matter in being understood, but my point is that being a trans woman does not equal being a biological woman. Growing up a girl is not the same as choosing to be a girl as an adult or even a teen.
My original point also remains the same: International women’s day is for equal rights for biological women to biological men. Adding trans women in as though they are the same as biological women is does not help either group, because they are not the same sex. Trans women don’t need the right to abortions. I’m all for having an international Trans-women’s day, so that they get equal rights to women, men, and transmen. Women, who still don’t have equal rights to men in reality (if mostly on paper) will not be served by having trans-women sharing their day. TBH I’d bet dollars to donates some sexist guy came up with the idea to mix them together exactly for the reason that it brings more controversy rather than more consensus on equal rights.
