Joking aside, this was a wonderfully succinct and informative article on why it is sometimes better to surrender early and live to rise again rather than be (again) throughly decimated as in WWI and the Franco-Prussian war.

I find it ironic that so many understand why France surrendering to the Nazis was strategically the better choice, but Ukraine doing something very similar in 2022 would have been "horrible appeasement." Very soon Ukraine will be in no condition to rise up again for a generation.
