Dude, this is not about me.

Sadly, it is impossible to judge if my mom is beyond the point of caring. It is difficult to watch. With the progressing memory loss, it is impossible to say if she really doesn't remember how much she drinks, or if she is lying.

On the few days that she stays sober when I visit, she gets very melancholy. I have to think how scary it would be to know you are losing your memory, and you can't do anything about it. You know it will kill you eventually, so why not kill the pain each night? If that is how she wants to go out, who am I to tell her no?
