Cool post. I'm not ready to write off ICE yet. Although I personally want to move to electric quickly, there are huge logistical and technical hurdles to be overcome, as well as constant improvement in gasoline (not in diesel that I know of) ICE technology to the point that ULEV and better actually clean the air they pump through their motors.

Ever more stringent regluations will get the smog monsters off the roads ASAP while understanding that people of average means will need affordable used vehicles that work with current infrastructure until newer infrastructure fills in the gaps.
