Clearly what is needed is more people with skin in the game - i.e. more socialism. If higher earners pay more into taxes when they are younger with the understanding that part of that goes to pay for universal healthcare (or at least insurance), tax funded college, protections for workers, protection for the environment and a robust pension system (in the US "Social Security"), then they also understand that keeping government "by the people and for the people" is how they assure their own nice retirement.

This is the model in a lot of the EU, where quality of life and hapiness is much higher than in the US "dog eat dog" system.
