Bidets and “bum guns” are “getting whiter” (i.e. moving north and west in the EU). Up until very recently they were still seen as luxury items so where I am in Austria. Most companies are still selling toilets for thousands, and most plumbing firms will only install toilets and fixtures from their store/website. If you travel to Turkey (which I do) you’ll see that every toilet has a built in bidet, including those in temporary construction huts. Obviously some plumbing firms in Western Europe are making a small fortune on each installation. That is changing. We just redid a half-bath putting in very nice bidet toilet for a couple hundred Euros, including a new water line, bidet toilet, hand valve and installation.

Regarding toileet paper, if you use the bidet and soap correctly, you only need a towel to dry yourself (ladies might be an exception depending on mounting angle). Bonus is that you also have learned how to wash your hands to avoid getting Coronavirus!
