Benjamin, Sachs and Daly are heroes for speaking out publically and loudly against this war. Even if I don't agree with everything they say, I'd have loved to shake their hands and personally thank them after hearing them speak.
What a shame I'm reading this on 11 June in the afternoon. I didn't even know it was going on. Would have been even better in the Catamaran, as I could ride my bike there, but the XIV. district is easily reachable by underground.
For those commenters who think Russia should withdraw before negotiations start I'll say you seem unclear on what the term "negotiation" means. As conditions change, acceptable terms of negotiation for each side change. If the US and UK hadn't blocked the peace deal reached in Istanbul, Russia backing out of the Donbass was probably possible. Today, with Russia winning and Ukraine on the back foot, the deal from March 2022 will (IMO) no longer be acceptable to Russia.
This war is the result of the West, lead by the US, to not negotiate with anyone since the fall of the USSR and the adoption of the Wolfowitz Doctrine in the 1990s.
The 1990s are long gone. Peace in the 2020s means recognizing that China, Russia, India, and Brazil are far too big and powerful for the US to dictate terms to anymore. We have to negotiate in good faith and relearn the word "detente." It is either that or WWIII and noone will win WWIII.
