As with many other types of big business, particularly in the US, the profits are private and many of the costs are socialized. We as voters need to support efforts to put the costs of solid and liquid waste disposal, emissions, and health (e.g. antibiotics resistance) back onto the animal-agriculture producers where they belong. That will go a long ways towards equalizing the prices between plant-based and animal-based food production.
It is simple math: For humanity to survive on this planet, a large percentage of humans will need to go vegan. There is not enough land and fresh water to raise feed and animals to support a western-style diet for 10 billion humans.
