Although near the end of your piece you said that you were able to "just simply be" and it was a wonderful freedom. I fully agree.

Everyone has their own view on everyday life. I don't find it tedious or boring, but that is just me. Interludes between "something happening" I use for reflecting or taking a trip down memory lane, or listening to a book on my phone if I can't read one physically.

I've been sober now for many years, but still have lots of friends and family who drink. What I do find "boring" is sitting in a room trying to have a decent conversation with a bunch of really drunk people. Each of them thinks they are smart, witty, quick, and/or rhetorically gifted. A bit of alcohol is fine, but as the average blood alcohol level climbs the fun factor drops. No chance of reflection for me, as drunk people are loud. That is what I find boring. Like watching a bad film. I have too many books I want to read to spend time watching drunk people think they are entertaining.
