"Adopt don't shop" is the saying my wife and I repeat all the time.
Our last two dogs have been from shelters. Both Huskies. Both very large (for Huskies) as we have a yard for a large dog, and easy access to very large parks where they have (had) plenty of space and time to spend with them.
Huskies look cool and like pugs and Persians, people take them as an accessory, similar to a nice purse or a cool car, rather than thinking about what kind of dog parent they can be and what kind of commitment it is to take a pet, particularly a dog with a personality like a husky.
Because Huskies have that "independent" personality, there is no shortage of them in shelters. Give one a fur-ever home.
Another saying we like is, "We can't change the world, but we can change one dog's world."
