Abso-fucking-lutely. Remember when appliances had vitrually no plastic pieces and lasted for 20 years instead of 20 months? I do. Our washing machine stopped working because a €3 plastic switch broke.

I took the machine apart. The switch was destined to fail the way the way it was designed and made of plastic. The same switch in metal would last 20 years or more rather than 2. I ordered replacements and spares so that I don't have to pay a repair firm €200 to replace a € 3 switch evey 2 years.
