40 years ago my best friend from high school and college (we're still friends) had a Jeep. It was cheap and fun except that it got bad gas mileage.

Fast forward 30 years and my wife and I are looking for a new car. 2013 Jeeps are small on the inside, big on the outside. Still get bad gas mileage.

Fast forward another 10 years. I had a Jeep Renegade Sahara for nearly 4 weeks as a rental. The thing was small-ish on the inside for something the size of a transport van on the outside. Got decent mileage (but I'm used to European gas prices so in the US all gas is cheap).

I looked up the new price and realized I'd never buy a Jeep. For that money I can have really nice new BMW SUV or a good used Porsche SUV.
